New Paragraph
Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) has had a significant impact on the field of psychotherapy, generating extensive research on outcomes and in-session processes. It has contributed significantly to our understanding of the in-session mechanisms of change that alleviate pain and suffering. EFT is viewed as a transdiagnostic psychotherapeutic approach that has developed systematic and flexible interventions and principles that can be adapted across various client issues and presenting problems. It focuses on working with core underlying, painful emotions to transform emotional pain and suffering. It has evolved into a comprehensive theory of functioning and clinical practice, which asserts that emotional change is central to enduring change. Providing an empathically, attuned therapeutic relationship that is facilitative to working with emotions is also central to this approach.
These trainings are for licensed mental health professionals (example: psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, social workers). Clients often present to therapy with concerns related to unhealthy eating habits or a preoccupation with their appearance. This might include behaviors such as emotional eating, chronic dieting, bingeing, purging, or distress related to body shape, size, or weight. In this workshop, you will learn to identify and assess the deeper emotional issues that drive superficial unhealthy behaviours using an emotion-focused and trauma-informed perspective. You will learn emotion-focused interventions to help clients increase emotional awareness, improve emotional self-efficacy, resolve emotional processing difficulties, and address the deeper wounds beneath unhealthy eating patterns and body image concerns.
